3Elína Tzéngko was born in Kallikrateia, Greece, on September 2, 2002. Winner of the gold medal at the European Championships in Munich in the javelin throw, she is the woman of records: she is the youngest ever European Greek and javelin champion.
Early career
Elina Tzengko was born in Greece to Albanian parents and took her first steps in athletics from the age of seven. During primary school, she joined a sports club and began handling the javelin very early, when she was 11 years old.
After obtaining Greek citizenship in 2018, he began participating in various sporting competitions in the international arena, including capturing the best Under-18 world result at the Pan-Hellenic School Championships in Ioannina, with a throw of 65.90 meters, achieved with the javelin in his category. While in July 2021, with a throw of 59.60 meters, he won the silver medal at the Under-20 World Championships in Nairobi, Kenya.
In 2022 the spotlight shone on Elina Tzengko who, still only 19, won the gold medal with a personal best of 65.81 meters at the European Championships in Munich, becoming the youngest athlete in her discipline-both male and female-to win the title at the European Championships. She is also the first teenager to triumph at the European level in throws and the youngest Greek European champion ever.
In October of that year, Tzengko also became the first Greek athlete in history to receive the European Athletics Rising Star award.
Golds at the U20 European Championships in Tallinn and the U23 European Championships in Espoo also shine in his youth palmares.
