Career Start
Muir first approached athletics at the age of 11, his international debut came during the European Cross-Country Running Championships in 2011 in Slovenia, while in 2013 he participated for the first time in the World Athletics Championships in Moscow in the 800-meter race.
In the 1,500 meters, the Scottish athlete scored her first major victory during the 2015 international meet at the Bislett Games in Oslo, with a race that saw her take the lead from the first seconds.
In July 2016 he won the Diamond League in London: with a time of 3:57.49, breaking the previous British record set by Kelly Holmes at the 2004 Athens Olympics of 3:57.90.
On the strength of this achievement, she entered the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro (2016) as one of the big favorites, however, finishing in seventh place. Eleven days after Rio, however, came the big occasion for a rematch: in the Paris leg of the Diamond League, Muir broke the British 1500-meter record with 3:55.22, in a race featuring ten Rio Olympic finalists.
At the 2018 World Indoor Championships in Birmingham, he won a silver in the 1500 and a bronze in the 3000.
At the 2021 Olympic Games in Tokyo, he won the silver medal with a personal best of 3:54.50, while the following year he took bronze at the World Championships in Eugene and gold at the European Championships in Munich, repeating his 2018 success at the European Championships in Berlin.
Laura Muir graduated from Glasgow University’s veterinary school in 2018, when she was already competing at the highest level in her discipline.
