Josh Kerr is a British athlete born in Edinburgh on October 8, 1997. A middle-distance runner, it is in the 1,500-meter flat that he has achieved his greatest successes, such as a bronze medal in the Tokyo Olympic Games in 2021 and a gold medal won at the World Championships in Budapest in 2023.

Early career

Josh Kerr grew up in an athletic family; his brother, Jake, plays rugby for the Bristol Bears team, as does their father John, who has a background as a professional player. Her mother, Jill, on the other hand, has a physical therapy practice.

Kerr began his passion for athletics at the age of nine, but it was not until college that he began to compete in his first competitions, supported by his coach Danny Mackey, who had noticed him during his college days in New Mexico, where he had moved.

After placing sixth at the World Championships in Doha in 2019, he won the bronze medal at the 2021 Tokyo Olympic Games, where he also set a personal best of 3:29.05. Two years later, he took fifth place at the 2022 World Championships in Eugene.

It can be said that the real, almost unexpected success came in 2023, when he won the gold medal at the World Championships in Budapest. In this competition the favorite to win was Norway’s Jakob Ingebrigtsen, but for the second edition in a row he suffered a world defeat in the 1500 by a Briton (in Eugene it had been Jake Wightman).

On the runway Kerr always wears sunglasses in very bright colors. He explained in several interviews that he uses them to gain a psychological advantage: by having such opaque lenses, opponents do not know where and what he is looking at.

In addition to taking care of her nutrition and her workout program, Kerr also focuses on her mental aspect; in fact, she starts her day with at least 10 minutes of meditation.
