Pia Skrzyszowska, the hurdler who conquered Poland
Pia Skrzyszowska was born in Warsaw on April 20, 2001. She is a Polish athlete, European 100-meter hurdles champion in Munich 2022.
The passion for athletics goes way back and can be said to be a “family affair”: Pia Skrzyszowska’s mother, Jolanta Bartczak, is a former Olympic long jumper and bronze medalist at the 1988 European Indoor Championships. Pia’s father, Jarosław Skrzyszowski, was also a sprinter and today, after also coaching Pia’s older sister, he is her coach.
Pia Skrzyszowska won the silver medal in the 100hs at the 2019 European Under-20 Championships held in Borås, Sweden. Two years later, she finished fifth in the 60-meter hurdles at the 2021 European Indoor Championships at home in Toruń. That year he also won the gold medal in the 100-meter hurdles at the European Under-23 Championships in Tallinn, Estonia.
A few days after setting a personal best of 12.51 in Chorzow, he captured his first senior title at the European Championships in Munich with gold in the 100hs in a time of 12.53. Instead, she won silver with the 4×100 relay together with Anna Kiełbasińska, Marika Popowicz-Drapała and Ewa Swoboda.
Making her 2023 season debut on Jan. 29, Skrzyszowska won the 60-meter hurdles at the ISTAF Indoor in Düsseldorf, Germany, with a personal best of 7.84 seconds. Just a few days later, he improved his personal best again with 7.78 at the Orlen Cup in Łódź
