Asier Martínez appears on the world athletics scene in 2021 and can be considered a child of art; in fact, his mother, Elena Echarte, was herself a champion hurdler. Right from the start, Asier showed such great talent that very soon he became one of the symbols of Spanish athletics.

In 2021 he finished fourth in the 60-meter hurdles at the European Indoor Championships in Toruń, Poland, with a new personal best of 7.60 On May 15, 2021 in Castellón, he breaks his personal best in the 110-meter hurdles with 13.34, just before winning the 110-meter hurdles race at the European Team Championships in Chorzow. Also in 2021, he took sixth place with a time of 13.22 at the Tokyo Olympics.

Asier Martínez’s name is gaining more and more weight on the international scene: in 2022 he took fourth place at the World Indoor Championships in Belgrade in the 60hs, and at the World Championships in Eugene that same year he surprisingly won the bronze medal with a time of 13.17. While at the 2022 European Championships in Munich, the Spaniard ran 13.14, prevailing over Pascal Martinot-Lagarde of France to become the new European champion in the 110 hurdles.

The year 2023 began with a victory in the 60-meter hurdles in Luxembourg. Then, after more indoor competitions, a series of physical problems hampered his preparation enough to force him into an extended stop until 2024.

Leisure: Although Asier has to follow a very strict diet, he loves good food and follows Basque TV cooking shows.

The study: Asier is studying political science at the University. Starting this year he will take online courses, but until last year he drove almost two hours every day from Pamplona to Bilbao to class.
