Two golds at the European Indoor Championships in Istanbul in the 400 meters and the 4×400 meter relay and gold at the World Championships in Budapest in the 400 meter hurdles and the 4×400 meter relay.
It was precisely at the World Championships in Budapest, in the 4×400 mixed race, that Femke Bol demonstrated her sporting and human caliber: she started last and seemed destined for a medal, but a few meters from the finish line she literally fell face-first to the ground. But without losing heart, she immediately found her chance for redemption in the women’s 4×400, winning gold, showing character and perseverance.
With records and victories sealed in 2023, she won the European Female Athlete of the Year award for the second time in a row.
Femke Bol holds the issue of mental health very close to her heart, and in addition to being followed to improve physical performance, she has turned to a specialist to take care of this important aspect that, if underestimated, risks compromising an athlete’s sports life.
